One of the most popular and well-known brands is Frontline Plus. Frontline is most commonly recommended by veterinarians for flea and tick control and is only available through your vet.

Frontline promises a number of things on the bottle, so it is time to put this to the test!

Today I am going to answer some of the most frequently asked questions regarding Frontline, and hopefully by the end of this article you will know whether or not Frontline is a product you want to use to help tackle fleas with your furry friend. 

What is Frontline?

First, to understand how great Frontline is, it is important to know exactly what it is. 

Frontline is a formula created to remove fleas and ticks from your pets in a quick and effective way. It is used by pets across the globe,.

Once applied, the formula is advertised to prevent and deter ticks and fleas all year round. If your pet has already caught fleas or ticks, the formula will help kill them within 48 hours of use.

How does Frontline work?

Frontline works after application by spreading across your pet’s body by a process called translocation. This means that your pet’s natural oils will gradually disperse the formula over their body. It will be collected in the oil glands in the skin and then translocated onto the hair over the next 30 days. 

This can take up to 24 hours to complete and so it is important to follow instructions whilst this is still going on to ensure the process is complete. Once the translocation has happened, not only will the pet’s skin be protected, but the formula will now be located through their fur as well for extra protection. 

Will Frontline kill flea eggs?

Frontline works by killing fleas within 18 hours of application. Once fleas jump on your pet, they must be present for at least 24 to 36 hours before they can lay eggs. This means that the fleas will be killed before they have a chance to lay their eggs.

If the fleas have been present for a while already, and have laid their eggs, have no fear! Frontline kills not only fleas, but it also destroys flea larvae.

This means that even if the eggs already exist, the formula will kill them before they can hatch.

Frontline also helps prevent eggs from hatching and larvae developing not only on your pets, but also in your home. This helps prevent future infestations which will also keep your animals from catching fleas further down the line. 

How long does Frontline last?

Frontline actively works and lasts for a full 30 days. This allows enough time for any risk of eggs or fleas spreading from other parts of the house or hatching within those days.

This means that any new fleas will be killed before they can then go on to lay eggs and so within this time you should be able to completely stop the infestation.

Do fleas fall off cats and dogs after Frontline treatment?

Some fleas may fall off during the process, but it is important to brush and comb through your pet’s hair to remove not only fleas, but flea dirt. Keeping your pet as clean as possible during treatment is the best way to prevent a further infestation.

When combing your animals, you should also ensure you are vacuuming and deep cleaning the surrounding areas in your house. Fleas can go on to live on furniture and in carpets, and so killing them before they create a new home on your pet again is the best way to tackle fleas.

How long does it take for fleas to die after treatment?

Research shows that Frontline will kill 100% of fleas within 18 hours of correctly treating your pet.

This means that the treatment needs to be applied correctly and left on for the correct amount of time in order for it to give the best results. In order to do this, you should follow each step carefully and thoroughly.

For other pests, such as ticks, Frontline can take up to 48 hours. The key to noticing results is to have patience when it comes to Frontline, but after patience the results should be worth it!

What happens to the fleas after Frontline?

After treatment, the fleas will be killed. Some will drop off but you will also need to continue combing your pet. The process is ongoing and so even once the formula is applied, you will need to continue to maintain it. 

Following the instructions provided on the bottle but also by the vet are the best way to ensure that the treatment is completed correctly and thoroughly enough to fully remove the flea infestation. 

Why does my pet still have fleas after Frontline treatment?

As mentioned above, the treatment is an ongoing process.

One of the key things to note is that you should not bath or let your pet swim 48 hours before or after treatment. Many people apply the treatment after they have washed their pet. Instead, ensure you leave enough time after the bath, and then stop your pet from going in any  water for at least 48 hours after treatment as well.

If you continue to notice more fleas, you should not repeat the treatment, as you may overmedicate your pet.

Instead, make sure you are cleaning the area in which your dog sleeps and eats. Any places that may have had the dog scratching also need to be cleaned. The treatment takes a while to work and will continue to kill fleas for up to 30 days. 

If you complete the 30 day cycle and still see no improvements, it is likely you may need to repeat the process. Before doing this, you should contact your vet to gain professional advice from them regarding the situation.
